Foreigners in an irregular situation: How to regularize their situation?

What is regularization?

The procedures vary according to the personal situation because there are different reasons to justify the right to stay in France.

In all cases, you must submit your application for a residence permit to the prefecture or sub-prefecture of your place of residence.

1. Professional activity

The conditions to be fulfilled

  • You must have an employment contract or a promise of employment

The documents to provide

  • Proof of your integration into French society. In this case, you can present certificates of friendly circles, membership of associations, voluntary activity, participation in school activities for children.

2. Private and family life

The conditions to be fulfilled

  • You do not have a residence permit allowing you to remain on French territory on a regular basis

The documents to provide

The documents requested vary depending on your personal situation, including:

When you have just turned 18, you must therefore prove that:

  • at least 2 years of presence in France on the date of his 18th birthday
  • a diligent and serious school career
  • financial support from parents residing in France.

If you are a parent of a child attending school, you must therefore provide proof of:

  • your presence of at least 5 years in France
  • the schooling of your child in France for more than 3 years

3. Studies

The conditions to be fulfilled
